Dayton Aviation Heritage National Museum

Here at Dayton Aviation Heritage National Historical Park, the contributions of three important local historical figures, Wilbur and Orville Wright, along with poet Paul Lawrence Dunbar are celebrated.  Discover how their stories intersect with other important people, places and historic events in the Miami Valley. In addition, check the website for information about kids programs, such as the Junior Ranger program, which is free! Located in the Wright Dunbar Neighborhood, put this treasure on your 'Must See' list!

Accessible from the Great Miami River Trail, this ride is a great choice for riders wanting to experience both Dayton's history, as well as discover Dayton's vibrant downtown. We suggest taking a tour of the Wright Dunbar neighborhood while there. Begin by checking out the Wright Cycle Company Bicycle Shop while at the museum and continue following Williams Street south for a leisurely trip back in time. At the corner of Hawthorne and W. 4th street is the original site of the Wright Brother's home. Both renovated historic homes, as well as more recently constructed homes with historic designs create a distinctive, historic community in the neighborhood that was once home to Orville and Wilbur. In addition to the replica of the Wright Brother's home across from the original home site,  be sure to continue down Williams Street past the replica homes of Thomas Edison's Menlo Park lab, as well as the John Glenn and Neil Armstrong family homes. Some residents call this neighborhood Dayton's best kept secret. We think they might be right!

For additional way points check out our route generator. We recommend riding to Riverscape along the river to experience the Paul Laurence Dunbar Walk. Several of his poems are etched in stone at the top of the staircase at the west end of the park.
